Frequently Asked Questions
Q:> Where does your company name come from ?
A:> I’ve always believed that developing software is not entirely an engineering discipline. It is more akin to a craft. Part Art, Part Science. Hence Art ‘n’ Science ! Of course it helps that there doesn’t appear to be anyone else in the world with a similar name, making us unlikely to be confused with anyone else, and giving us the top spot in Google :-)
Q:> You are a small company, what guarantee do I have that you do a good job ?
A:> The only guarantee that is worth anything; As a small company the quality of the job we do directly affects our ability to earn a living. Happy customers mean referrals, referrals mean more business, more business means the chance to grow our company. Every customer is important to us, they have to be. Besides, Small is the New Big :-)
Q:> Do you offer a money back guarantee ?
Commercial software bought from Arten Science is covered by a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee. We don’t want unhappy customers. If you are willing to tell me in why you would like your money back and what it is about the software that you couldn’t live with, I will give you your money back.
Q:> Can I Beta Test future products ?
Beta Testers for Arten Science products are entitled to the product either free of charge or at a significantly reduced price when the final product is released. The final price to Beta Testers is dependent on their input to the product during the Beta Test phase. If you would like to be considered for Beta Testing of future products email us at: betatest@artenscience.co.uk
Q:> What is the .NET Framework and why might I need it ?
The .NET Framework is part of all current Microsoft Operating Systems, although Microsoft is constantly updating it and a newer version may be required. Modern programs written using the the .NET languages (mainly Vb.Net and C#) need the framework present in order to run. If you don’t have the framework installed we have provided a download page here.
Q:> How do I check if the necessary .Net Framework is installed ?
If you are using Windows XP: Press the ‘Start’ button and select the ‘Control Panel’ option. When the window opens select the ‘Add or Remove Programs’ icon. Scroll down the list of ‘Currently installed programs’ until you see ‘Microsoft .NET Framework N.N’, where N is the version of the framework that your software requires. If you cannot see the correct framework then you will need to download and install it. See the previous FAQ.
If you are using Windows Vista: Press the ‘Start’ button and select the ‘Control Panel’ option. When the window opens select the ‘Programs and Features’ icon. Scroll down the list of programs until you see ‘Microsoft .NET Framework N.N’, where N is the version of the framework that your software requires. If you cannot see the correct framework then you will need to download and install it. See the previous FAQ.
Q:> Some of your products require Quicktime installed - why ?
Quicktime is only required for cross platform products that display image or video information. We have used Quicktime because it means we can use the same graphics technology for displaying images and video regardless of whether you use the Windows or Macintosh version of the product. Quicktime for Windows can be downloaded here.
